SharePoint 2010 Feature: Sandboxed Solution

SharePoint 2010 introduces new feature called Sandboxed Solutions. These sandboxed solutions are nothing but .wsp packages which has limited access to resources and runs isolated alongside other processes. Sandboxed solutions will not be able to make updates beyond the scope of the current site. You are also limited in performing farm level and web application level changes.
But Why Sandboxed Solutions?
Today, in SharePoint Server 2007, solutions are deployed in the farm level though you can activate features per web application or site. There is no proper way you can centrally manage/administer these solutions in a shared environment per web application or site. With sandboxed solutions, administrators can now allocate quotas, monitor the usage and also prevent excessive usage of resources by the solution. But yes, you are limited in the functionality what the solution can access, but as long as the solution scope is not beyond the site level, it is always better to build sandboxed solutions.
Surprisingly, Sandboxed solutions are going to play a major role in Microsoft Online Services very soon :)
Building a Sandboxed Solution
Building a Sandboxed solution is as simple as building a normal SharePoint application (Web Part, User Control etc.,).
Refer the following MSDN Article to find out more about Sandboxed Solutions. From MSDN:
The following capabilities and elements are available in sandboxed solutions:
The following capabilities and elements are not available in sandboxed solutions:

  • HideCustomAction element

  • Web Application-scoped Features
  • Farm-scoped Features

Fashion your Firefox!

Mozilla has now devised a Web application called
"Fashion your Firefox" that allows Firefox users to dress up the web
browser with their favorite add-ons.

It is a tool meant to customize the Firefox browser based on users'
interests and online activities. Fashion Your Firefox simplifies this
by allowing users to select add-ons that they need with just one click.

Mozilla defines the 'fashioning' the Firefox bit in the following way:

Fashion Your Firefox refers to the application's ability to
customize, tailor, and "fashion" your Firefox to best suit your daily
activities online.

Mozilla currently has 9 sets of interestingly named Firefox
extensions with their description below them. Some of them are: Social
Butterfly (for social networks), Shutterbug (for viewing and sharing
images and videos online), Rock Star (for music), and so on.

To add multiple add-ons to your Firefox, users can select add-ons
in categories that are interesting to them. Click the "I want this
add-on!" button and select the adjacent "Click here to install them"
link. Users will then be prompted to confirm their choices, and your
browser will restart with the selections added to your Firefox, without
having to add them individually.

Gmail Video Chat

Google has started Video Chat in Gmail.

Excerpts:
Google say they’re currently rolling out a video chat option to Gmail. I can’t see it yet, but according to Google, once it’s rolled out and you installed the Windows plug-in
(and restarted your browser), you’ll see a “Video & more” ->
“Start video chat” option at the bottom of your Gmail chat box.
Contacts of yours who also installed this plug-in are supposed to show
with a camera icon next to their name in the chat list. Once you
contact a person, they’ll hear it ringing and can accept the video
chat, and you can then see & hear them via the webcam.
